China May Sell TikTok to Elon Musk
Chinese officials are considering the possibility of selling TikTok to Tesla CEO and billionaire Elon Musk if a ban on the app takes effect in the United States. This is reported by Bloomberg.
The U.S. Supreme Court is currently deliberating on whether to uphold a law requiring the Chinese company ByteDance to cease TikTok operations in the U.S. by January 19. After that date, third-party internet service providers will face penalties for supporting TikTok's operations in the U.S.
According to reports, Beijing officials want TikTok to remain under ByteDance's ownership, and the company is trying to achieve this through legal actions. However, judges indicated during discussions on January 10 that they are likely to uphold the law.
High-ranking Chinese officials have already begun discussing contingency plans with the Trump administration, one of which involves Musk. One of the scenarios discussed in Beijing could be that Musk's social media X company takes control of TikTok's American division.
