This is a Serious Political Message: Minister
The Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, considers the relations with the EU and the USA to be important directions for Armenia's economy. He made this statement during the annual summary press conference.
According to the minister, a calibration laboratory is being established in Armenia, one of which has already been put into operation and three more will be launched in the coming months. Additionally, he mentioned that three other laboratories will be created during the year.
“This year, we plan for the recognition of the national certification system by the EU to take place. We have successfully passed the preliminary process, and we hope to become a member of the international standards of measurement and weight. This will allow the indicators given by an accredited laboratory in Armenia to be recognized in the EU. Can you imagine what that means? Currently, people go to the EU to obtain documents in order to export goods to the EU. In the future, they will come to Armenia to export goods to the EU, which is significant,” noted Papoyan.
He emphasized the importance of the relations with the EU, where many activities have been carried out. He pointed out that serious work is being done with the WHO in terms of intellectual property and other areas.
Referring to relations with the USA, the minister stated, “We are moving towards a strategic partnership with the USA, preceded by high-level economic discussions.” Papoyan also added that a program for the exchange of competitiveness among American countries has taken place in Armenia, while it usually occurs on the American continent. “This is a serious political message,” he said, adding that the second point is the trade and industry sessions between Armenia and the USA, aimed at facilitating trade between the countries and reviewing Armenia’s market status.
