Over 5 Tons of Oil-Contaminated Soil Removed in Sevastopol in the Last 24 Hours
During the last 24 hours in Sevastopol, more than 5 tons of oil-contaminated soil has been removed, bringing the total to around 155 tons since the beginning of operations. This was reported by the city's mayor, Mikhail Razvozhaev.
“A total of 5.84 tons of oil-contaminated soil has been removed for disposal from Northern Submarine's beaches, Golubaya Bay, and Balaklava region. The total over the course of operations has reached 154.47 tons,” Razvozhaev wrote on his Telegram channel.
He also added that 23 birds affected by the oil spill are currently being treated at a state veterinary clinic.
It is noteworthy that on December 15, tankers “Volgoneft 212” and “Volgoneft 239” carrying oil suffered an accident in the Kerch Strait, leading to a fuel leak. According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, approximately 2,400 tons of oil ended up in the sea due to the tanker incident.
Oil spills have been reported in Sevastopol since January 3. Emergency regimes of a regional nature have been established in the Krasnodar Territory, Crimea, and Sevastopol, as well as a federal state of emergency.
