Oil Slicks Found on the Shores of the Sea of Azov
Oil discharges in the Black Sea have reached the Zaporizhia region of the Sea of Azov. This is reported by Kommersant.ru, citing regional leader Yevgeny Balitsky.
According to Balitsky, a 14.5 km long contaminated area has been discovered on the Berdyansk River. “An oil spill has been observed in the coastal area of Azov, near Berdyansk's shore. A 14.5 km contaminated area with solid oil debris has been recorded from the open sea,” Balitsky wrote on his Telegram channel.
Additionally, Balitsky noted that another contaminated area measuring 5 square meters has been found in a different location. He stated that employees from the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations and the municipal government, as well as volunteers, are involved in the cleanup efforts. The regional leader has called on all services and agencies to intensify their actions and conduct continuous monitoring of the coastal zone.
The oil spill occurred following the sinking of the tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 on December 15. On January 10, news emerged of a new oil leak from the Volgoneft-239 supply base.
