Air Pollution, Unemployment, Corruption: Protests Erupt in Mongolia

On January 11, anti-government protests began in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. According to a TASS correspondent, the number of protesters exceeded one thousand by evening. Central Asia Media reports that around 3,000 people gathered for the demonstration. Protesters accuse the government of failing to combat air pollution, unemployment, and corruption, and are demanding resignations.

The protesters assembled at 11:00 AM local time (7:00 AM Yerevan time) in Ulaanbaatar's central square. News.mn notes that the police allowed the demonstration to take place from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but it continued beyond that time. The protesters blocked the city’s main road, hindering public transportation for several hours. News.mn reports that society criticized the actions of the protesters, reminding them that “it is essential to exercise the right to protest without disturbing others.”
