France Bids Farewell to National Front Founder Jean-Marie Le Pen

A farewell ceremony has been held in France for Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder of the political force National Front. RTVI reports that Le Pen was buried in his hometown of La Trinité-sur-Mer.

The farewell took place at the local church and was strictly a family affair, according to Le Figaro.

Pascal Bolot, the prefect of the Morbihan region, had previously issued an order prohibiting protests and other mass gatherings in the La Trinité municipality.

Enhanced police patrols were deployed at the ceremony site.

Le Pen's three daughters, grandchildren, and close relatives attended the burial. Many supporters of the political figure traveled from other towns and stood behind a temporary fence on the street next to the church.

The next farewell ceremony for the leader of the National Front party will take place on January 16 in Paris at Notre-Dame Cathedral. This time, the ceremony will be open to the public.
