Devastating Wildfires: Biden's Statement
In Los Angeles, California, the area affected by wildfires has reached nearly 11,000 hectares, as announced by U.S. President Joe Biden. He stated, “These are the most devastating fires in California's history.”
According to him, 360,000 people have been evacuated from the disaster zone as of now. The president noted that American authorities will send additional brigades of firefighters, as well as aircraft, to combat the blaze. Specialists from Canada may also be involved in fighting the fire.
When asked about the potential cost of recovery after the fires, Biden did not provide a specific figure but indicated that it would be a substantial amount. “The truth is, no one can tell you that. Anyone who gives you a figure right now has no idea what they are talking about,” the president remarked.
The wildfires in California have been ongoing since January 7. According to the state’s fire department, the fire has destroyed over a thousand structures, and 10 people have died. The situation is exacerbated by strong winds, which hinder aerial operations. It has also been reported that the massive fires in Los Angeles may have been ignited intentionally.
