State Department on Signing Strategic Document with Armenia
Washington currently has "nothing to consider or announce" regarding the signing of a strategic partnership document with Armenia. This was stated in response to a question from Voice of America by the U.S. State Department.
The Armenian service of Voice of America inquired whether there are any upcoming meetings planned between official representatives of Armenia and the U.S. to elevate bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership, what documents might be signed between Washington and Yerevan in this regard, and whether Washington intends to continue this dialogue with Yerevan under the new U.S. administration.
Earlier, Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan addressed the issue of raising relations with the United States to the level of strategic partnership, mentioning an upcoming official bilateral meeting and the anticipated document. He noted: "First, I want to say that we do not raise Armenian-American cooperation to a strategic nature; the strategic nature already exists, and we have a strategic dialogue that we have agreed to elevate to a strategic partnership. The discussed document or documents concerning this certainly exist. I also want to mention that a meeting is being discussed, planned between officials representing the Republic of Armenia and the United States."
