Mexico's President Responds to Trump's Proposal
Mexico's president has responded to Donald Trump's proposal to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf, showcasing a map of ‘Mexican America’. Claudia Sheinbaum displayed a map from 1607 during a press briefing, where a significant portion of North America is marked as ‘Mexican America’. “It sounds good, doesn't it?” Sheinbaum noted.
Following the president, former Mexican Minister of Culture José Alfonso Suárez del Real spoke, emphasizing that the name ‘Gulf of Mexico’ is internationally recognized and has been used for centuries.
It is worth mentioning that on January 7, Donald Trump announced his desire to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf. He also promised to end “illegal immigration” from Mexico and impose substantial tariffs on goods imported from Canada and Mexico to the U.S.
