Kremlin's Response to Armenia's EU Integration Process
Peskov expressed doubts that Armenia could theoretically be a member of both the EU and the EEU simultaneously. This was reported by TASS.
It is noteworthy that today the Government of Armenia approved the bill on the launch of the process for Armenia's membership in the European Union.
“Armenia can only become an EU member if a referendum is held, and in accordance with our Constitution, the participants of the referendum must obtain the required number of votes in favor as defined by law,” stated Prime Minister Pashinyan.
In the context of the current regional situation, the decision of the Armenian authorities can be characterized, perhaps, in one word: drastic. Being a member of the EEU economic bloc, Armenia is starting the process of joining another major economic union.
