It is a Mockery in the Truest Sense: Zakharova

The blockade of electricity supply to the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic by Moldova is a mockery of the residents of Pridnestrovie. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, during a broadcast on Sputnik.

“Everything that should have been forgotten is being applied on the basis of absolute impunity, starting from persecution based on linguistic characteristics to the disconnection of vital resources today. The entire arsenal is being put into use. From linguistic persecution to the disconnection of vital resources. It is a mockery in the truest sense. It is survival, in both senses. For some, it's the expulsion of others from their territory, and for others, it’s survival simply as a possibility to exist,” said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The supply of gas to Moldova was suspended at the beginning of January due to the blockade of the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory and Moldova's refusal to resolve the issue of overdue fuel debt, which the Russian side estimates at $709 million. Unlike Moldova, Pridnestrovie does not have alternative sources of gas. To save resources, central heating has been disconnected, hot water supply to residential buildings has stopped, industrial enterprises have ceased operations, and rolling blackouts of electricity have begun. The Moldovan CHPP on the left bank of the Dniester has switched to coal, which is expected to last until the end of January or mid-February.
