Iran's National Security Secretary to Arrive in Yerevan After Visit to Baku
The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, has arrived in Azerbaijan today, according to Iranian media reports.
The senior Iranian official intends to discuss issues of cooperation in politics and security with his counterparts in Baku.
After Azerbaijan, Ahmadian will visit Armenia and meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Notably, Ahmadian's trip to Baku comes just a day after Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made sharp statements about Iran. In an interview with local media on January 7, Aliyev spoke about the deterioration of relations with former Iranian leaders, claiming that Iranian trucks had entered Nagorno-Karabakh while it was under Armenian control.
Aliyev also expressed dissatisfaction with Iran conducting military exercises near the border and making strong statements directed at Baku. He referred to the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran as a coordinated act of terrorism that has affected bilateral relations.
