I Can't Say Anything Good About It: Foreign Minister
The return of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh has become akin to a riddle. This was stated by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a press conference.
According to him, since the 2020 war, the Armenian authorities have made every realistic effort to ensure that the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to live there and enjoys certain rights.
“I believe these efforts did not receive the proper attitude from the current, and perhaps even past, authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh. In some way, that is also why we have what we have today,” he noted.
According to the minister, the Armenian authorities spoke about the return of Artsakh residents or staying there at a time when Armenians were living there. “Where, under what conditions can you say? Just as Azerbaijani citizens? Was there such an opportunity for Azerbaijani citizens who have the right to learn in Armenian at school? Or another way? When there are no Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh, you come to Yerevan and say: ‘The return of Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh.’ Very well, we heard you; unfortunately, I can't say anything good about it,” said Mirzoyan.
He pointed out that it is the government's policy to ensure that compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh can meet their basic needs.
