A body of a Russian tourist who was kidnapped in the Svaneti region of Georgia on January 5 has been discovered in the Nakra River. This has been reported by NewsGeorgia, citing a statement from the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
The Telegram channel “Осторожно, новости” reported that a couple, Viktor and Alina, arrived from Russia and set out from the city of Zugdidi towards the village of Mestia on the night of January 5. Alina recounted that at one point they stopped due to snowfall to take pictures, and a Subaru vehicle passed by, offering assistance to the couple. After refusing the help, they continued their journey and encountered the same vehicle again, leading to a conflict.
According to Alina, she heard unidentified individuals saying, “Why are you stopped in the tunnel, why are you filming us?” She also mentioned hearing two gunshots. As a result, Viktor was taken away by the unidentified individuals in their vehicle.
On the evening of January 6, the Georgian MIA announced the arrest of two suspects. According to investigators, on January 5, they robbed two foreign citizens and seized their mobile phones. The MIA reported that one of the tourists, a man born in 1986, was illegally deprived of his freedom and killed by the abductors. Police believe that one of the suspects disposed of the body in the river to cover up the crime.
