Belarusian President Will Not Apologize to Zelensky: Lukashenko's Press Secretary
The press secretary of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Natalia Eysmont, has dismissed claims made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that Lukashenko apologized to him during the early days of the 2022 conflict. This was reported by RBC.
"The Belarusian President has not apologized to Zelensky for the simple reason that we have nothing to apologize for. Primarily because Ukraine, as we remember, was the first to impose sanctions against Belarus—even ahead of the United States and the entire West," said Eysmont.
It is worth recalling that in an interview with American blogger Lex Friedman, Zelensky mentioned that during a phone call in February 2022, Lukashenko stated he had nothing to do with the military operations. According to Zelensky, Lukashenko apologized for the launch of Russian missiles from Belarusian territory into Ukraine. Zelensky also mentioned that Lukashenko advised him not to fight the Russians, to which the Ukrainian President referred to his counterpart as a murderer.
Natalia Eysmont explained that the conversation between the two leaders occurred "exclusively due to the emotional reaction of the Belarusian President's younger son, Nikolai, who had personal communication with Zelensky via his phone."
