More than 30 Dead Dolphins Found After Oil Spill in the Kerch Strait
More than 30 dolphins, likely dead as a result of an oil spill, have been discovered in the sea following a tanker accident in the Kerch Strait. This information has been reported by the Scientific and Environmental Center for Dolphin Rescue.
In a statement, they said, “After the emergency incident, we have discovered 61 dead cetaceans.” It is believed that the dolphins perished due to the oil spill, while the remaining bodies were already very old and had died before the incident.
Experts receive information about new dead dolphins almost daily, conduct assessments, and regularly report data to state authorities. “So far, there have been no cases of live dolphins being washed ashore, but we expect that in the coming months there will be more affected dolphins than usual. Our main priority at this time is to prepare as well as possible to provide long-term medical care for the affected animals,” the center reported.
