Lavrov Explains Rapid Development of Situation in Syria
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has explained the rapid development of the situation in Syria by the previous president Bashar Assad's inability to overcome the country's social issues, in which the actions of the United States played a devastating role. He made this statement in an interview with TASS.
“We can already say that one of the reasons for the degradation of the situation was that the previous leadership failed to meet the basic needs of the population in the context of a prolonged civil conflict,” the minister said.
According to the Russian Foreign Minister, this line of 'suffocating' the Syrian economy has consistently generated social discontent. “In this situation, the authorities were forced to take unpopular measures, in particular, by reducing or eliminating subsidies for socially important goods and services,” he continued.
