Moldova to Sue Gazprom
Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean has threatened to take legal action regarding Gazprom's decision to limit gas supplies to the republic to zero cubic meters per day starting January 1 due to debts owed by Moldovagaz. This was reported by TASS.
“Today, Gazprom notified its subsidiary Moldovagaz that it will stop supplying natural gas starting January 1. The government will carefully analyze legal options, including filing for international arbitration, to protect our national interests and seek compensation for the economic losses and threats to the security of Moldovan citizens arising from the Kremlin’s decisions,” stated the Prime Minister in a post on his Facebook page.
Earlier on Saturday, Gazprom informed the gas distribution company Moldovagaz that it will cease supplies to Moldova starting January 1, 2025, due to the Moldovan side's breach of contract and refusal to settle debts for the supplies. Previously, the Moldovan government acknowledged that failure to meet debt repayment obligations could provide grounds for contract termination. Government representatives, in turn, have accused Gazprom of violating its obligations concerning the volume of supplies.
