1056 Websites to be Blocked in Armenia, IT Security Expert

Today, a meeting of the Internet Governance Council was held, dedicated to the law on blocking in Armenia. This was reported by IT security expert Ruben Muradyan.

He stated that the addresses of 1,056 websites have been discussed for potential blocking. The aim is to combat gambling. Mechanisms for blocking are also included in the legislative package on cryptocurrencies.

“Today was the meeting of the Internet Governance Council, focused on discussing one of the laws that turn Armenia into a #digitalconcentrationcamp—the law on blocking. In case you didn't know, we already have HayKomNadzor. This HayKomNadzor is discussing the addresses of 1,056 sites that should be blocked. The purpose is to fight gambling.

In addition to this, according to ‘rumors floating in the air,’ there are also mechanisms for blocking in the legislative package on cryptocurrencies (foreign exchanges and changers will be blocked). Cable broadcasters are also dreaming about blocking (here, too, sports streaming services will be blocked),” he wrote.
