What I am about to say, consider it as us thinking aloud: MP from the Civil Contract Party

Recently, there has been much discussion about air pollution in Yerevan. This was stated by Arsen Torosyan, a member of the National Assembly from the Civil Contract Party, on his Facebook page.

“Dear compatriots, lately there has been a lot of talk about air pollution in Yerevan. Of course, I am neither an environmental nor an air pollution expert, and what I am about to say, consider it as us thinking aloud together, as concerned citizens.

You may have noticed that when talking about air pollution, references are mainly made to this website: www.iqair.com/armenia/yerevan. When I opened this site, a simple question arose: where does it get its data on air pollution? After opening the corresponding page, it became clear that the sources of data for the city of Yerevan cannot be considered reliable or professional in any way. I am attaching a picture of them so that you can also be convinced of this. I am also posting the sources for London, Milan, and Vienna from the same site, so you can see what kind of reliable sources the website uses for these cities.

In order for the information chaos regarding this issue and the resulting panic to dissipate, I think the Yerevan municipality, along with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Health, should regularly present to the public the real and professional measurements of air pollution and also comment on their impact on our health.

The above does not imply that there is no air pollution either in Yerevan or elsewhere, but only reliable information will allow us to understand the true depth of the problem and take real steps to combat it, so that we can have as much clean air as possible in both Yerevan and the entire country,” Torosyan wrote.
