How Much Has the Dust Level Exceeded in the Air in Recent Months
According to the Air Quality Index, air quality values are classified into six groups: good, moderate, unhealthy for sensitive groups, unhealthy, very unhealthy, and hazardous.
During a meeting at the Yerevan City Hall, the head of the Environmental Protection Department, Sirarpi Haikazyan, presented that based on data from 151 monitoring stations in Yerevan, the average air quality index reached 103 in November, while in December it increased to 140. These values are considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, falling within the range of 100-150.
According to Haikazyan, observations from the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center of Armenia indicate that the amount of undifferentiated dust in the air exceeded the established standards by 1.8 times in November and by 3.4 times in December.
She also pointed out that according to a government decision, pollution is deemed hazardous when the concentration of harmful substances in the air exceeds the permissible levels by 20-29 times and lasts for more than two days.
