If the Border Opens, Russia Will Send Migrants to Finland, Says Orpo

The Prime Minister of Finland, Petteri Orpo, stated that the border with Russia remains closed because Finnish authorities are confident that if it opens, Russia will send migrants to Finland without the necessary documentation.

“The eastern border is closed until further notice, and we cannot open it until we have found a way to, in agreement with Russia, open one or several border crossings. There is no such understanding,” Orpo said.

According to him, Finnish authorities need to understand that if border crossings are opened, there is a risk that Russia will send migrants to Finland without the appropriate paperwork.
