Turkey Resumes Relations with Syria
Turkey is resuming its relations with Syria in the wake of recent events in the country. After a 13-year hiatus, Turkey is reopening its embassy in Damascus in an effort to restore its infrastructural framework. The Damascus airport is set to resume operations next week.
Among the agenda items is the reopening of the Mersin-Aleppo railway line, which has been inactive for around 12 years. The Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has completed the renovation and inspection works of the Turkish section of the railway.
Specifically, inspections were conducted on the Turkish side's rails to facilitate the resumption of cargo transportation from the ports of Iskenderun and Mersin, as well as the restoration of passenger transport through Gaziantep and Kilis. Should the railway line be activated, it is expected that passenger transport between Mersin and Aleppo will increase.
