«There is no need for that». Aliyev
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated in an interview with VGTRK and RIA Novosti that reports about alleged Turkish plans to establish a military base in Azerbaijan are political maneuvers. "In short, there is no need for that. If I expand my answer a bit, considering that such information occasionally appears in certain media, I must say that there is no need for it," said Aliyev.
He referred to the information leak regarding the plans of deploying a Turkish military base in Azerbaijan, emphasizing that it is practically impossible to hide any military base in the world today. According to Aliyev, this information is politically motivated.
"The point in the ‘Shusha Declaration’ on allied relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey provides for mutual military assistance in case of threats and aggression," he noted.
“This is an obligation for both Azerbaijan and Turkey to provide assistance if one or the other faces an external threat or aggression. Therefore, this point in the declaration essentially requires the establishment of permanent military infrastructures in the territory,” Aliyev revealed.
