EU Ready to Move from Words to Action, Says EU Ambassador
The EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Hercynski, has announced the determination of new EU leaders to move from 'words to action'. According to him, the situation in Georgia will be discussed during the EU Foreign Ministers meeting on December 16, followed by a session of the EU Council.
The ambassador clarified that negotiations in Brussels are underway regarding the coordination of various measures pertaining to Georgia. 'I hope that the 27 member states will agree on certain measures. All options will be discussed, including the suspension of the visa regime for specific passport holders and, importantly, sanctions,' stated the diplomat.
At the same time, according to Hercynski, they 'do not want to harm or punish the Georgian people'. 'These people go out every evening and wave the flags of Georgia and the European Union. Our goal is not to punish them; our goal is to send a strong signal to the authorities that both the path they have chosen in recent months and especially the brutal treatment of protestors in recent days are unacceptable,' emphasized the EU ambassador.
