We Have No Reason to Attack Azerbaijan: Pashinyan

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has addressed the thesis circulating in Azerbaijani media that Armenia needs to start a war against Azerbaijan for internal political reasons.

“On the contrary, for internal political reasons, it is beneficial for us—the governing team and specifically for me—that the situation in the region be stable. And I believe this is an obvious fact,” the Prime Minister stated.

According to him, there are forces interested in destabilizing the situation in the region. “Our response should be not to succumb to any provocation and to explain our position without getting tired. We have no reason to attack Azerbaijan,” he said.

Pashinyan emphasized that another legal step has been taken at the political level by mutually recognizing each other’s territorial integrity based on the Alma-Ata Declaration, and the regulations of the delimitation commissions have also been ratified. “We need to start the process of delimitation by mutual agreement soon, in the next phase,” he added, excluding any action aimed at destabilizing the situation in the region by Armenia.

The Prime Minister also stated, “We are committed to the peace agenda, and Armenia has no military issues with any of its neighbors. We have recognized and continue to recognize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all our neighbors. And I hope that we will activate the work around the peace treaty project, because 90 percent of the work has been done, and we just need to make the final effort and sign the peace treaty.”
