Russian Foreign Ministry Clarifies Whether Assad Will Be Extradited to Another Country
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has stated that former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is safe in Russia. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
According to the diplomat, Moscow will not extradite the political figure to the International Criminal Court.
In mid-November, it was reported that France had issued an arrest warrant for Assad. The leader of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) has been accused in Paris of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
It should be noted that armed opposition groups in Syria have launched a major offensive against government forces, capturing major cities, including Damascus (the capital of the Syrian Arab Republic).
On the night of December 8, it was announced that President Bashar al-Assad's authority had "ended." Reports indicated that Bashar al-Assad and his family left the country after negotiations.
Subsequently, information emerged that the former president of Syria had arrived in Moscow. The Kremlin emphasized that Russia is not obligated to officially inform anyone about granting asylum to Assad.
