This Indifferent Attitude Led to Huge Disappointment: Mirzoyan

In an interview with Finnish media, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan addressed the issue of Armenia's involvement in the CSTO, stating that Armenia is still a member of the CSTO but is disappointed with the organization, as it has not received "real support".

“Formally, we are still part of the CSTO, but we have announced that we have frozen our participation in the activities of the organization. For decades, you have considered that we should be in this military alliance because we have had common threats and certain concerns related to potential aggression against the territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Armenia. We thought that this organization would help us protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity. Unfortunately, in recent years we have witnessed several attacks, and our internationally recognized borders have been violated. When this has happened, we have never received real support. Allies with such commitments should help each other; that is the essence of a military alliance.

This indifferent attitude has led to huge disappointment. It has indeed changed public opinion in Armenia. It has created a unique situation. We are in the midst of a significant process. I cannot predict where this process will take us, but I can say that we are deepening our relations with European partners in various fields,” said Mirzoyan, adding that this includes economy, economic resilience, as well as political dialogue and mutual understanding.

“There is EU involvement in security issues regarding the security environment of Armenia. We have a political and security dialogue format with the EU. An EU mission is deployed in Armenia, which conducts monitoring along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. Such developments were unimaginable a few years ago,” he noted.
