Putin Awards Lieutenant General Rank to Chechen 'Akhmat' Commander

Russian President Vladimir Putin has elevated the rank of Abti Alaudinov, the commander of Chechnya's special forces unit 'Akhmat', who was responsible for operations in the Kursk direction. This was reported by the BBC's Russian service.

It has been noted that Putin also granted the rank of army general to two deputy ministers of defense, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov and Viktor Goremykin. Yevkurov was acknowledged for his meeting with Yevgeny Prigozhin in May 2023 during the Wagner Group's rebellion.

With the new rank of lieutenant general, Abti Alaudinov, who is also the deputy head of the military-political department of the Armed Forces of Russia, adds to his title. He previously held the rank of major general, which he received in November 2022.

Alaudinov's subordinates were in the Kursk region when Ukrainian armed forces invaded this area in August of this year.
