Syrian President Advised to Leave the Country

Syrian President Bashar Assad has been advised by officials from Egypt and Jordan to leave the country amid ongoing military operations; however, as of December 6, he was still in Syria. According to a report from RIA Novosti, "Assad was in Syria on Friday. Last week, his children and wife left... Officials from Egypt and Jordan have urged Assad to leave the country and form a temporary council that would include the opposition," the publication states.

The article, referencing security sources in Syria and Arab officials, mentions that Assad has allegedly called on Turkey to intervene in the situation involving the rebels, seeking weapons and intelligence assistance from other countries, including the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq, but has so far received refusals.

It is also noted that Tehran has demanded Kyiv to immediately stop supporting terrorists in Syria.

Recall that on November 30, terrorists took control of Syria's second-largest city, Aleppo, and its surrounding areas, including the international airport and the Kuweires military airbase. This marks the first instance of insurgents completely capturing Aleppo since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011. Until the end of 2016, the armed opposition controlled only the eastern part of the city, but the Syrian army, with support from Russian air forces, expelled the anti-government forces from there.

Following the capture of Aleppo, terrorist groups attempted to advance towards the city of Hama, taking control of the town of Maaret al-Numan. However, on December 1, the Syrian army announced the prevention of the rebels' advancement in Hama and initiated a counter-offensive, during which several settlements were liberated.
