10,000 Armenians Under Control of Militants, Says Sinanyan
The Chief Commissioner of Diaspora Affairs, Zareh Sinanyan, is making every effort to maintain contact with representatives of the Armenian community in Syria to gather information regarding the situation created by the recent military tensions and to provide possible support, reports Armenpress.
According to him, due to the latest military escalation, a serious situation has developed in Aleppo, where about 10,000 Armenians have found themselves in an area under the control of militants.
Sinanyan stated that Armenians in Aleppo prefer to stay in their homes as they cannot leave the city, and therefore, the possibility of evacuation is currently absent. An uneasy situation has also arisen in Kesab and Damascus due to the ongoing military operations. As Sinanyan reported, Syrian government forces have not succeeded in halting the advance of the militants.
The Chief Commissioner noted that the situation is relatively calm in Latakia. In the cities where the situation is relatively stable, local Armenians are worried about their relatives who are in areas affected by the military operations.
