We Are Proposing Additional Costs for Drivers: Pashinyan
The government has proposed a new regulation during its session today that would prohibit the operation of vehicles if, from November 15 to March 31 (inclusive), winter tires are not installed on light passenger cars. It is also noted that during the summer, driving on winter tires will be banned. An exception will be made for the year 2024, as this rule will come into effect starting December 10.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized, "There are drivers in the Republic who also drive their vehicles with summer tires in winter. We are proposing certain additional costs for drivers, but this is one of the decisions we need to make. I want to share my personal experience; I made it a principle for myself to only have winter tires on my car starting in November. When I found myself in an emergency situation on a snowy road with my family, I realized that it was merely by chance that we did not face severe consequences.
We must not allow our citizens to be in emergency situations, in life-and-death scenarios, after which we will only make these decisions by reviewing statistics retrospectively," said Prime Minister Pashinyan.
