Ukraine Requests Weapons from South Korea: SBS

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's special delegation, led by Defense Minister Rustem Umarov, has reached out to the Republic of Korea with a request to purchase weapons. According to SBS, the South Korean authorities have responded to this proposal with little enthusiasm, TASS reports.

On November 27, Umarov met with President Yoon Suk Yeol and National Defense Minister Kim Jong-hyun. During the preparations for the visit's agenda, it became clear that Ukraine expressed a desire to buy weapons, rather than seeking to receive them for free from the South Korean government.

SBS sources indicate that the request pertains to the "Chonhongong" surface-to-air missile systems and anti-drone warfare and air defense radar stations. Kyiv has asked to sell propellant charges for 155 mm caliber shells, in case full ammunition supply to Seoul proves challenging, considering these items are deemed lethal.
