We are making every effort: Erdogan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that he expects Israel to literally comply with the terms of the ceasefire agreement reached with Lebanon.
“We are making every effort to find solutions to conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. We are pleased with the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, which came into effect this morning. We expect all parties, especially Israel, to literally fulfill their obligations to maintain peace,” he stated.
The Turkish side, as noted by Erdogan, is “ready to make any contribution to halt the massacre in Gaza and establish a lasting ceasefire.” Turkey's Foreign Ministry had earlier welcomed the establishment of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon and expressed hope that it would be permanent.
The international community, as noted in the ministry, “must exert pressure on Israel to strictly adhere to the ceasefire regime and compensate Lebanon for the damages incurred.”
The ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel came into effect today at 04:00 local time (06:00 Yerevan time) in accordance with the American-French initiative. According to Al Nahar newspaper, the document provides for the gradual deployment of Lebanese army units along the southern border with the support of UN interim forces in Lebanon. In turn, the Jewish state will begin to gradually withdraw its troops from Southern Lebanon over a period of up to 60 days.
With the approval of both the Israeli and Lebanese sides, a monitoring commission will be established to oversee the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1701, which will include Great Britain, the United States, and France. The United States will also facilitate indirect negotiations between Israel and Lebanon to address ongoing border issues.
