Israel and Hezbollah May Declare Ceasefire Soon: Reuters

The United States has informed Lebanese officials that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah may be announced within hours, according to Reuters, citing a Lebanese official and a Western diplomat.

Earlier, the Axios portal reported that, according to the American side, Israel and Lebanon had agreed on the terms of a ceasefire. According to the portal, the agreement includes the establishment of a supervisory commission led by the U.S. to monitor its implementation and address violations.

The announcement from the agency stated, "The United States has informed Lebanese officials that a ceasefire could be declared 'within hours.'" As the Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Elias Bou Saab, told the agency on Monday, there are no longer "serious obstacles" to declaring a 60-day ceasefire.

The politician noted that according to the proposed plan, the Israeli army would withdraw from southern Lebanon, while Lebanese troops would be deployed in that area. Bou Saab also emphasized that the issue of the composition of the ceasefire monitoring commission has been resolved in the past 24 hours.

On Monday, CNN, citing an informed source, reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given preliminary approval for a possible ceasefire agreement with the Lebanese Hezbollah movement, but Israel wants to present certain reservations and convey them to the Lebanese authorities.
