Who Will Become the New Russian Ambassador to the US: Sources
The new Russian ambassador to the United States may be former ambassador to Canada, Alexander Darchiev. This information was reported by Kommersant.ru, citing three sources who referred to him as the "most likely candidate for the position." Days earlier, Russian President's spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that a candidate for the ambassadorial position in the US had already been determined, indicating that the appointment would occur in the "foreseeable future."
Vedomosti was the first to announce Darchiev's potential appointment. A source from the newspaper insisted that the former ambassador to Canada would be dispatched to the US, while a decision has not yet been made to downgrade the level of Russia's diplomatic representation in that country.
At the same time, Peskov told TASS that there are no plans to reduce the level of diplomatic relations with the US. The Foreign Ministry has publicly refrained from commenting on the candidate for the new ambassador to the US due to legal restrictions, TASS reports.
