A Harsh Winter is Expected: The Times
According to The Times, about 80 percent of energy infrastructure facilities have been damaged or destroyed due to air strikes in Ukraine. The information is relayed by Rbc.ru. Without proper protection, the country is expected to face a harsh winter.
This assessment has been made by Ukrainian authorities, with Energy Minister German Galushchenko warning that Ukraine is on the brink of probably its most severe winter in history. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, all thermal power plants and a significant portion of hydroelectric power capabilities have been destroyed due to Russian strikes, with the country's energy system damaged by 80%. Millions of people could be left without heat during the winter.
The Times reports that in February of this year, engineers from the UK, USA, Germany, and Japan advised their Ukrainian counterparts to enhance the protection of energy facilities. Mustafa Nayem, the former head of Ukraine's recovery and infrastructure projects agency, told the publication that the project has been postponed because authorities have refused to allocate funds for it.
