Will Trump's Administration Continue Financial Support for Ukraine?
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) considers it premature to discuss the potential reassessment of financial support for Ukraine under the new administration of elected President Donald Trump, said IMF Communications Director Julie Kozak.
“It is still very early to talk about potential changes in policy,” Kozak stated during a press conference.
Ukraine has been running a record deficit budget for the second consecutive year, hoping to cover most of this deficit with the help of Western partners. By the end of this year, the deficit is expected to reach $43.9 billion, while the provision of new aid packages in the West occurs after lengthy discussions.
Earlier, the head of the IMF mission in Ukraine, Gavin Gray, had noted that over time, international support for Kyiv is likely to decrease, and thus the country’s authorities need to develop internal resources for self-financing.
