Zelensky Again Rejects Holding Elections in Ukraine

Vladimir Zelensky has stated that there will be no presidential elections in Ukraine during the state of martial law, citing that the constitution and laws do not permit it.

“We all know that the constitution and laws of Ukraine do not allow elections to take place during wartime, and nobody in the world is demanding or asking for this from Ukraine. However, there are some people among us who have a taste for it. They prefer to fight within our state rather than for our state, seeking political disputes in the trenches like in television studios,” said Zelensky while addressing the Supreme Council.

At the end of October, Zelensky's office head, Andriy Yermak, announced that elections in Ukraine would occur immediately after the end of armed conflict, as all of Kyiv's resources are currently focused on that.

Zelensky's term ended on May 20. The presidential elections in Ukraine for 2024 have been canceled due to martial law and general mobilization. Zelensky has stated that the elections are now “untimely” postponed.
