It Is Painful for Us: Statement from the Armenian Wrestling Federation

The Armenian Wrestling Federation has issued a statement regarding the exclusion of wrestlers in military service from participation in the World Military Wrestling Championships.

"The Armenian Wrestling Federation (AWF) has no involvement in the organization, conduct, and selection of the national team for the World Military Wrestling Championships. These matters are entirely under the jurisdiction of the military structures of the respective country. The current situation, where several notable athletes have been excluded from the Armenian national team, remains unclear to us, as the basis for this decision has not been presented to the AWF. Nevertheless, we feel it is important to emphasize that those athletes included in our national team, representing Armenia, are fighting with equal dedication for the honor and tricolor of our country. As active servicemen of the RA Armed Forces, they are obliged to comply with the decisions and orders of their commanding officers.

It is painful for us that prominent and recognized athletes have not been included in this competition; however, we expect all our wrestlers, regardless of their experience or background, to represent Armenia with dignity. They will enter the wrestling arena not only for themselves but also to uphold the honor of Armenia, with the direct support of their coaches.

Regarding our coaches, their role in our athletes' lives and careers is invaluable. Like parents, they have dedicated years to educating and supporting their trainees, turning them into athletes who represent our country with pride. At this responsible moment, coaches cannot leave their students alone, regardless of the current situation. They have always been and will continue to be by their side, as an irreplaceable source of inspiration, guidance, and support.

The dedication and care of coaches are not only the cornerstones of sporting success but also essential for preserving our national values and honor. Therefore, we urge everyone to refrain from comments that may insult or undermine our athletes and coaches. All our wrestlers are doing their utmost, fulfilling their professional duty in honor of the Republic of Armenia. Thank you for your understanding and support," the statement reads.
