Iran Will Not Cede Its Positions: Foreign Ministry
Iranian diplomat comments on the restoration of the JCPOA.
The official representative of Iran's Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baghaei, stated during a press conference that Tehran will not cede its positions regarding Iran's nuclear program in negotiations with Europe over the restoration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
"We will never compromise our positions and interests. Every deal must be carried out on a fair, impartial, rational, and logical basis. Every deal has its history. It is reasonable to expect that the parties will not repeat past mistakes and will try to utilize the experience of previous negotiations," Baghaei said.
During Rafael Grossi's visit to Iran, discussions were held with the country's leadership, and he observed Iranian nuclear program facilities in Fordow and Natanz for a further decision on implementing the JCPOA.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated during talks with Grossi that Tehran has not developed and will not develop nuclear weapons.
In 2015, the UK, Germany, China, Russia, the USA, France, and Iran signed a nuclear deal that provided for the lifting of sanctions in exchange for limiting Iran's nuclear program. During Donald Trump's presidency, the USA withdrew from the JCPOA in May 2018 and reinstated sanctions against Tehran. In response, Iran announced a phased reduction of its obligations under the agreement, specifically abandoning limitations on nuclear research and uranium enrichment levels.
