American Senators' Pro-Armenian Remarks in Baku

During a press conference at COP29, American Senators Ed Markey and Sheldon Whitehouse expressed support for Armenia and defended the right of Artsakh residents to return. “We believe that political prisoners should be released, and we believe that the Armenians have the right to return to Nagorno-Karabakh,” said Markey.

Senator Whitehouse also stated that he and his colleague support Armenia. “We are very saddened by the fact that so many Armenians have been displaced. I am, to put it mildly, far from the belief that Armenians are to blame for what has happened. And I do not want to touch on human rights issues in the host country; if that were the topic, I wouldn’t be so laudatory,” Whitehouse noted.
