Disappointment Expressed: Open Letter to Charles Michel
In response to the congratulatory statements made by Charles Michel, President of the European Council, to Ilham Aliyev during the COP29 leadership, the European Armenian Advocacy office expresses its disappointment and reminds the President of the European Council about the resolution adopted by the plenary session on October 24.
This is stated in an open letter sent to Charles Michel by the European Armenian Advocacy office. “The European Parliament condemns Azerbaijan for violations of human rights and international law. In the ‘Q’ clause of the resolution, it is emphasized that Azerbaijan’s attack on Artsakh represents a gross violation of human rights and international law, a clear breach of the trilateral ceasefire statement of November 9, 2020, and a failure to fulfill obligations undertaken during EU-mediated negotiations.
In fact, President Michel has publicly emphasized several times that the fundamental rights of the Armenian population of Artsakh are a principled issue for the EU. In response, Azerbaijan has carried out a textbook example of ethnic cleansing. Unfortunately, we must consider that not only did your mediation fail, but also that your actions continue to harm the credibility of the EU,” the letter states.
