Vandalism Targets Artsakh's 'We Are Our Mountains' Monument
On November 8, 2024, Azerbaijani Telegram channels began disseminating photos and videos of the 'We Are Our Mountains' monument located in occupied Stepanakert. The videos show that the back of the monument is covered with numerous inscriptions, primarily featuring the names and surnames of Azerbaijani visitors, as well as place names mocking Armenians and Armenia. This was reported by Monument Watch.
The footage indicates that the surrounding area of the monument has been damaged. At the same time, it is noticeable that the Azerbaijani propaganda machine is promoting a new thesis, claiming that despite the monument being built during Soviet times with Azerbaijani funds, it has 'become a symbol of Armenian separatism' and therefore should be dismantled.
We can affirm that the Azerbaijani authorities are not prohibiting their residents from covering the monument with various inscriptions, and they are also encouraging discussions aimed at demolishing the monument.
