Details Revealed by Investigative Committee on Assaulting a Company Director

On November 2, 2024, a report was received from the director of a company engaged in electrical engineering and furniture sales, indicating that on the previous day, around 18:15, approximately 10-15 individuals entered the company's premises and demanded money from him to avoid harassment and distress by others in the future. The request was declined, after which the intruders assaulted him while secretly stealing cash from a fireproof safe during the altercation.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Investigative Committee of Armenia's Shengavit administrative district, under Article 252, Section 2, Points 3 and 7 of the Criminal Code, recognizing the company director as a victim. During the preliminary investigation, several significant circumstances pertaining to the case were clarified as a result of necessary measures conducted in collaboration with law enforcement officers, including the identification of one of the alleged perpetrators, a 39-year-old resident of Yerevan.

Thanks to the efforts of investigators from the Shengavit administrative district and police officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the 39-year-old man has been located and arrested. Urgent investigative actions have been conducted, including on-site examinations, the seizure of security camera footage from the company, and questioning of various individuals, including face-to-face interrogations. A forensic medical examination has been assigned to the victim.

According to information obtained through evidential actions, the 39-year-old, along with a group of approximately 13 associates, reportedly visited the aforementioned company on Shiraz Street in Yerevan on the stated day, offering protection in exchange for monthly remuneration to resolve his financial problems. After the company director rejected this offer, he and his accomplices beat the director, continuing the assault even after he fell to the ground and targeting his face, neck, and head area. During the incident, they also stole a significant sum, estimated at 2,500,000 AMD, from the fireproof safe located in the office.

A decision has been made to initiate public criminal prosecution against the 39-year-old under Article 252, Section 2, Points 3 and 7 of the Armenian Criminal Code, and charges have been presented to him. A motion has been filed with the court to apply pre-trial detention as a measure of constraint, which has been granted. The investigation is ongoing, with measures being taken to clarify the full range of individuals involved in the alleged crime, to locate them, and to present them to the prosecuting authority. Relevant instructions have been issued to the appropriate division of the police.
