Zakharova Mocks Zelensky's Congratulation to Trump
The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, has sarcastically commented on Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky's congratulation to Republican Donald Trump on his victory in the US elections, noting that Kyiv seeks to please both Democrats and Republicans. The relevant post appeared on Zakharova's Telegram channel.
“As the saying goes, a tender child will drink from both mothers,” she wrote.
In Zakharova's opinion, after congratulating Trump, Zelensky should have added a caption reading “Your Volodymyr-Burisma-Zelensky” in a jab at the ties of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma with the Biden family's connections.
In April, The New York Times reported that one of the key episodes impacting Trump's negative attitude towards Ukraine was the story of a phone call with Zelensky in 2019. During the conversation, Trump demanded that Kyiv investigate the incident in which then Vice President Joe Biden pressured Ukraine to halt investigations into Burisma, which is linked to his son, Hunter Biden.
Biden had demanded the dismissal of the prosecutor who was investigating Hunter's case and his ties to Burisma.
