Around 50 Projectiles Fired Towards Israel, IDF Reports
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) report that approximately 50 projectiles were fired towards northern Israel from Lebanese territory.
"Following air raid sirens sounding in the Upper Galilee region some time ago, around 50 projectiles were fired from Lebanon," the statement said. According to the IDF, some of the projectiles were intercepted, while others fell in open areas.
It is noteworthy that Israel has been conducting ground operations against Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon since October 1 and continues to target the neighboring country, where over 2,000 people have been killed and more than one million have become refugees. Despite the losses (including in command ranks), Hezbollah is engaged in ground battles and does not cease missile attacks on Israeli territory.
Israel states that the primary objective of the military campaign is to create conditions for the return of 60,000 residents of the north who were evacuated a year ago due to shelling that commenced in support of the Palestinian Hamas movement by Hezbollah.
The situation escalated again on September 17 and 18 following a series of large explosions in various regions of Lebanon, which resulted in dozens of fatalities and around 3,000 citizens injured. Later, Israeli aviation struck a residential building in the southern suburbs of Beirut, resulting in the deaths of over 50 people, including Ibrahim Akil, the commander of Hezbollah's special operations forces.
In response, Shia militants attacked the IDF’s Ramat David airbase and the Rafael defense industrial complex located north of Haifa. Several missiles exploded in residential neighborhoods of Haifa.
