We Are Ready to Reassess Any Decision, Kobaikidze

The authorities of Georgia are prepared to reconsider any law if someone convinces them that it does not comply with legal principles. This was announced by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in an interview with Italian Sky TG24.

“If someone persuades us that this or that law does not comply with legal principles or the European spirit, we are ready to reevaluate any decision, although sincere discussions are necessary for that,” Kobakhidze stated.

It is noteworthy that relations between the EU, the USA, and Georgia have significantly deteriorated since May, when the parliament adopted the law on “Transparency of Foreign Influence.” The European Union has repeatedly called on the Georgian authorities to abandon this law; however, leaders of the ruling “Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia” party have consistently argued that the purpose of the law is to ensure the transparency of financial flows of NGOs operating in Georgia, some of which have attempted to organize a revolution in the country. Kobakhidze has repeatedly urged Western partners to discuss this law.
