It Was Terrorism: The MPs of the Civil Contract Party Are Scared
The newspaper "Hayeli" reports that at the end of February this year, an explosion occurred near the house of Gagik Melkonyan, a member of the National Assembly from the "Civil Contract" faction and former deputy minister of defense. Later, it became clear that the explosion had occurred in the backyard of a neighboring house.
However, the members of the Civil Contract Party were in total fear, as a bomb had also been planted in front of Gurgen Arsenyan's office, which fortunately did not explode.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated a criminal case regarding the explosion incidents involving the homes and offices of the Civil Contract MPs, and within the scope of this case, three individuals have been detained, who deny the charges against them.
In this matter, Gagik Melkonyan has also been questioned, and his testimony has come to the attention of "Hayeli" newspaper.
"I discussed the explosion that occurred at my neighbor Arthur Baghdasaryan's house with him, but it never crossed my mind that the incident was terrorism aimed at me. Even during one of the public interviews, I stated that the explosion had nothing to do with me, but some time later, I learned from law enforcement that the incident was indeed terrorism directed against me," Melkonyan said.
When asked if he had received any threatening messages prior to or after the mentioned incident, he responded: "I have not received any threatening messages."
In response to why the terrorists had targeted him and MP Gurgen Arsenyan, he said: "I cannot indicate any reason."
When asked whether he felt any danger to his life, health, and property when he learned that the terrorism was prepared against him, Melkonyan stated: "Of course, I felt fear for the life and health of my family members, as my family, including my grandchildren, reside in that house, and they could have been harmed as a result of the actions mentioned."
