Peskov Comments on 2 Quintillion Ruble Lawsuit Against Google

The press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, has commented on the lawsuit filed by Russian companies against the American technology giant Google, demanding a staggering 2 quintillion rubles (2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000). The Kremlin spokesperson believes that this amount is "full of symbolism." He stated that the best thing the American corporation can do is to rectify the situation, as reported by kommersant.ru.

“Although this is a specifically articulated amount, I can hardly even articulate this figure; it is rather full of symbolism. These demands reflect the essence of our demands against Google,” Peskov remarked.

The press secretary highlighted that the American corporation should not restrict the operations of Russian broadcasters. “In fact, this should serve as a reason for Google’s leadership to pay attention and rectify the situation. This is the best thing the company can do,” he added.

Russian television companies have demanded 2 quintillion rubles from Google regarding the blocking of their accounts on YouTube. The court in Russia has obliged Google to unblock these accounts. If the court’s decision isn’t executed within nine months from the day it comes into force, a penalty of 100,000 rubles will be imposed for each non-compliance day.

In March 2022, Google decided to block Russian channels on YouTube. The company cited the funding of these media by the government and the publication of materials about the war in Ukraine as reasons for its actions.
